Buying Cheap Computer Desks

As more and more homes are getting computers, more and more homes are in need of computer desks. Computer desks come in many shapes and sizes. They also have a wide price range from very cheap to very expensive. Cheap computer desks are not hard to find, but care should be taken to make sure that you will not end up spending more money in the long run replacing a desk that has only lasted a couple of years. You also want to make sure that the desk has all the features and space you will need.

While it is possible to find cheap computer desks online, it is a good idea to look at several actual models before purchasing one. This way you get a sense of the size of the desk. As you are looking at desk models, write down measurements and features that you like. This way, when you are looking at the information online, the measurements they provide in the product description will be more meaningful.

One of the reasons cheap computer desks are cheap is because of the materials used to make them. They are often made out of particle board and held together with cam locks and wood screws. Be sure to look at an assembled model to get an idea of how tightly together the joints are held. Ideally, there should be more than just a cam lock or screw at each corner. For the best stability and durability you want the middles of the joining pieces to be attached as well. When looking at the model, also look at the veneer that is applied to the particle board. Sometimes the way the veneer is applied can leave sharp corners and overlapping pieces that are more likely to separate from the board.

You will need to make sure that your computer desk will have enough space on top for all the computer components you have as well as enough storage space. Look at the sizes of the computer components that you will want on top of your desk, typically the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. You will want to make sure there is enough room for all of them as well as a place to write or place additional items. Some desks have a place to put the central processing unit (CPU), others do not. If the desk doesn't not have a place for the CPU, will you place it on top or on the floor? Also consider all the items you will keep in and on the desk, like pens, pencils, papers, books, and CDs. If you run out of space and have to buy a bigger desk within a year or two, then you haven't saved any money.

There are decent quality cheap computer desks available. You can find them in both brick-and-mortar stores as well as online. Finding one that will last more than a couple of years will take some research and some patience.
